KAMPALA. Three-time league champions Vipers are in search of a new head coach after opting not to renew Michael Nam Ouma’s contract.

The Kenyan coach was hired on an interim basis at the start of the year and took charge of the team in the second round of the league after the sacking of Mexican Javier Martinez Espinoza.

“Vipers Sports Club would like to announce that coach Michael Nam Ouma has left the club. The Club has also dissolved the technical department with immediate effect. Vipers Sports Club would like to thank Ouma and the technical team for the services rendered to the club and we wish them the best going forward. The club has started a process for the recruitment of a new coach and technical staff. ,” read a statement on the club’s website.

In his time, Ouma failed to fully stamp his authority at the club in part due to influence from his superiors while he also reportedly failed to earn the trust and respect of the players. He guided the club to second place in the league, finishing seven points behind winners KCCA. The club were also eliminated at the quarterfinal stage of the Uganda Cup by eventual champions Proline.

During that game, country-mate and national youth team coach Tom Olaba was seen giving instructions but was unable to stop Vipers from suffering a 2-1 loss.

Ouma took charge of 24 competitive games winning 11, drawing eight and losing five times.
He was in charge of the team for their trip to Kitara Region on Sunday where Vipers picked a 2-1 victory over the home side.
