  • Soccer. Bright Stars held on after the Purple Sharks dominated proceedings on the day.

Wakiso Giants went top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League despite being held to a one-all draw by Bright Stars at Betway Muteesa II Stadium yesterday.

The result moved the Purple Sharks to seven points from four games while Bright Stars stay second after getting their second point of the campaign.

But they will be grateful for the point earned after a slow starting which saw them go behind in the second minute when Sula Ssebunza fouled Hassan Ssenyonjo in the box.

Tom Masiko scored the resultant penalty and Wakiso should have been furrher ahead when the lively Ssenyonjo again beat Sam Ssekito only for Geoffrey Sserunkuma to head his cross wide.

Bright Stars improved in the second half when Methodius Jungu blazed over after the ball got stuck in a pool of water on the wet Wankulukuku surface.

Firing the equaliser
He was substituted shortly after with his replacement Ronald Nkonge firing in the equaliser with first touch after Joseph Janjali had struck the bar with a fierce shot.

Substitute Chrizestom Ntambi then side footed wide as Wakiso sought a late winner.
At the Technical Centre in Njeru, there was little to separate Jinja rivals Busoga United and Bul until Walter Ochora conceded a foul in the box.

Boban Zirintusa scored the resultant penalty before a fine individual strike from Joel Madondo and a third from Lawrence Tezikya added gloss to a 3-0 scoreline.
The result leaves the two teams with six points level with four others including second-placed Onduparaka.
