Buffaloes 7-19 Pirates
Mongers 10-3 Rhinos
Heathens 59-3 Impis
Kobs 97-0 Nile
Giants MTN Heathens and utl Kobs used the luxury of watching G4S Pirates play in the Nile Special Rugby League a day earlier to lay down an early marker on Saturday.
Unlike Pirates who laboured to a 19-7 win over Toyota Buffaloes thereby missing the bonus point, Kobs whipped Nile 97-0 at Kampala RFC whereas Heathens cruised by visiting Makerere University Impis 59-3 at Kyadondo.
Debutant Ronald Musajja, signed from Rhino and already an international from last year, scored two tries for the rampant Kobs, who have won the last two Uganda Cups.
Timothy Kabonero, Steven Ogwete, Ibra Nyango, Ambrose Kamanyire, Ronnie Lutakome and Joseph Okot joined in the try-frenzy before recess.
There was still time for Steven Ogwete, Isaac Lutwama, Paul Barigye, Victor Wadia, Timothy Mudoola, James Ijongati and Oscar Kalyango to pound Nile’s poor defence in the one-sided encounter game.
Kevin Markmot (4) and Joseph Aredo (6) shared the conversions as former Pirates and Rugby Cranes prop Bobby Bibangamba got a rare appearance. Champions Heathens, chasing a fourth successive league title, won’t be fretting over Kobs just yet as they got the bonus point given for four tries.
In Entebbe, Mongers overcame visiting Rhino 10-3 is a close contest.
