It’s kind of odd for a soft-drink corporate company to be involved with launching a song. One would think their core business is in the beverages sector not entertainment. But last Thursday at T1 Club, Pepsi was feeling quite musical.
At a colourful event that had guests welcomed by thundering African drums to the venue, Pepsi officially unveiled a track that had 15 countries contribute to it with only three African countries being chosen; Uganda being one of them.
Entitled Oh Africa featuring Akon, Keri Hilson, Rock City, Soweto Gospel Choir and our very own Rachael K, the track that has been released worldwide and is already dominating musical channels like Trace and MTV Base, had its Ugandan release with pomp that had a karaoke session that had the likes of Capital FM’s Alex and Pepsi’s David Kazoora trying out their luck on Robert “Bobby” McFerrin’s classic Don’t Worry Be Happy, doing injustice to the classic. But all was done tongue in cheek. Maisha Dancers too entertained the guests.
At the same event Rachel K who narrated her experience of recording with such luminaries like Akon and Keri Hilson, was unveiled as 2010 Pepsi Brand Ambassador. After all the unveiling of Oh Africa was done with, the floor was opened till the wee hours of Friday morning.
