Run your own schedule

One day I was in a workshop and someone was asking a facilitator what it takes to manage her WhatsApp messages. Some messages come through at around midnight and feels compelled to respond. The facilitator asked – “But what’s your schedule?”

In essence, he was planting a thought of control. Of being in charge. And yet, sometimes we feel the world out there is in full control. Now, what if you chose to be the one in charge? What if you decided to be the one to determine how things flow in your life?

You can decide to be the one in charge. At least to be the one with the biggest influence over how things appear to be in life. Because when you do, you feel happier. You feel you can influence key decisions in your life. The question then is, how can you make this happen?

One, decide as to what works for you in terms of your schedule. For example, for me, I chose Monday to be my day off. Now, I know that may not work for everyone since I am self-employed. But for you a weekend could work for you instead. It could be Sunday afternoon where you choose to have full control.

Two, train or inform people around you as to how you will be running your schedule moving forward. That way, people learn how to relate with you as you move along. For example, people who have related with me overtime do not bother to call on Monday because they know my phone will be off.

What area of your life are you choosing to be in charge when it comes to scheduling?
