The Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom (BKK) MTN Enganda tournament once again showcased the region's vibrant sporting culture on Friday, with the thrilling football and bicycle races drawing hundreds of participants and fans to Sir Tito Winyi Primary School in Kikuube District.

Abasambo Clan made a decisive step towards their first-ever second-round qualification in the MTN Enganda Cup after a narrow yet crucial 1-0 victory over Abahango Clan. The win, fueled by a clinical strike from Jackson Bagonza, sent waves of jubilation through the Abasambo supporters.

Reflecting on the victory, Bagonza expressed his excitement:
"I am happy that for the first time we have gone through to the next level. We thank our fans for the support and ask them to follow us in Hoima next year."

In a tightly contested tournament, Abasambo earned their place in the next round after securing the most points among the three clans representing Kikuube District: Abasambo, Abahango, and Abacwezi.

BKK Chief Administrative Officer Alex Katusabe echoed these sentiments, applauding MTN Uganda’s continued support of the kingdom’s activities and pledging further collaboration to nurture talent and unity in the region.

Cyclists Pedal Their Way to Glory

Earlier in the day, the BKK bicycle race electrified Kikuube with 103 elite cyclists competing in men’s and women’s categories. The event, flagged off by Chairperson Banura, saw participants race from Sir Tito Winyi Primary School through the bustling streets of Kikuube.

In the women’s category, Agatha Phiona claimed the top spot, leading a field that included Monica Ngonzi and Beatrice Alinda, while Peace Alinda Purity rounded off the top five.

The men’s category was equally competitive, with Hakim Kajura emerging victorious ahead of Bananas Kibirige and Cleophus Mugisa. All top cyclists qualified for the final stage, set to take place in Hoima City next month.

Kajura celebrated his win, stating:

Whether on the football field or through the cycling paths, the tournament underscored its mission: fostering unity, promoting health, and uncovering talent across Bunyoro’s clans.

The next stage of the tournament promises to bring even more excitement, as the qualified football teams and cyclists gear up for the finals in Hoima City next year.
