What is your name and what is your profession?

My name is Calvin Galabuzi Kakumba. I am a Cyber Security Specialist.

I am 26 years old and I have so far driven two. My first car was a Mark X, model 2006. I bought it in September 2023.

How much did you buy it?

I bought it at Shs18m.

Why a Mark X?

I liked it for its performance. It has a V6 engine with 2.5 CCs so this makes it very fast. I generally like fast cars.

Why do you like fast cars?

I travel upcountry a lot so I don’t want to spend much time on the road.

For how long did you have the Mark X?

I had it for nine months. I sold it off that fast because I wanted another car; preferably a Subaru.

Why A Subaru?

I wanted a Subaru because besides it being fast, it has a good performance, it’s a strong and reliable car. I drive a Subaru Legacy, model 2012 which cost Shs35m. It has extras that I found exciting such as the seat warmers and electronic seats. Additionally, since I drive very fast, I like the low ground clearance of the Subaru Legacy. It’s a 2.5 CC with a less fuel consumption as compared to a Mark X because it only has four pistons as compared to the six pistons in the Mark X.

How would you compare the performance of the Mark X to the Subaru Legacy?

Both cars have six gears but the Subaru has a wider gear ratio as compared to the Mark X. Therefore, while the Mark X has a high pick-up speed, it runs out of gear ratios faster than the Subaru. So, if both cars were to be on the highway, the Subaru Legacy would be faster than the Mark X.

Is it true that Subaru drivers are crazy?

They are more of knotty than crazy and they are in two categories. The ones that add anti-lags (these cause their vehicles to make blasting noises while on the road). The other type are the ones that put big silencers thus making the exhaust loud.

Do you ever find the need to compete with other Subaru drivers while on the road?

No, because we all have different driving styles and destinations.

How do you maintain your car?

I service my car on time and wash it daily in the rainy season and every after two days in the dry season. This is regardless of whether I have driven it or not.

Do you allow anyone else to drive your car?

Only my mechanic drives my car. I don’t give it out to any other person because people never pay for damages in case of an accident. They just say sorry and think it’s okay. However, the mechanic will pay for damages in case of an accident.

What is the highest speed you have ever driven?

180 Kilometers per hour.

When driving at 180 kilometers per hour, weren’t you scared?

No, I only drive at such a speed if I find the road safe and clear. For example, on the Express highway, it’s a given, the road is always clear. Kayunga Road is mostly clear apart from when you get to the trading centres.

How long did it take you to get to your destination while driving at that speed?

The time I drove at 180 Kilometers per hour on Kayunga Road, I was driving from Jinja to Gayaza and it took me one hour.

Are you part of the Subaru groups?

I don’t see any value in being a part of any of those groups. So no, I don’t belong to any.

What will be your next car?

The Volks Wagen Golf GTI because I want to drive a German Sports car.

What’s your dream car and why?

I want a Rolls Royce. It’s comfortable and luxurious.
