Nissan X-Trail

The Nissan X-Trail has long been a standout in the medium-sized SUV category, and the 2015 model is a prime example of how the brand keeps evolving.

One of the most noticeable changes is its sleek, aerodynamic shape, a departure from the boxy design of earlier models. This new design allows the X-Trail to glide through the air, improving performance and fuel efficiency at any speed.

For those who enjoy the fresh air, the 2015 X-Trail offers a panoramic sunroof, a feature absent in previous versions. It also boasts daytime running lights that contribute to its modern, stylish look.

General features

Under the hood, the 2015 model is powered by a four-cylinder, 2000cc, six-speed automatic petrol engine. While it typically drives from the front wheels, it also has the option to switch to all-wheel drive (AWD) for those tougher, rougher roads.

One of the major upgrades is the increase in passenger capacity; it now comfortably seats seven, instead of five, without making the vehicle significantly larger. And when you need extra cargo space, the additional two seats fold down easily, making it perfect for long family trips with plenty of luggage.

The design of the 2015 X-Trail has been updated, with a sleek, rounded edge replacing the old boxy look. It is now closer in style to the Nissan Murano, with sharp headlights and the signature Vmotion grille at the front. This grille is now a defining feature of many of Nissan’s newer models, such as the Sylphy, Pathfinder, Ariya, and Terra.

Interior

Inside, the X-Trail continues to impress. Rear passengers get their personalised entertainment, with two smart screens mounted behind the front seats.

They can control their viewing options and even stream movies from their phones via Bluetooth. The comfort factor extends to climate control as well; rear passengers can adjust the air conditioning from a panel between the front seats, ensuring everyone’s comfort, no matter where they sit.

In terms of safety, the 2015 X-Trail does not hold back. In addition to standard airbags and an anti-lock braking system, it comes with four parking sensors, a side mirror and front cameras, and blind-spot assist. This system warns you when a vehicle is in your blind spot, helping you avoid potential accidents when changing lanes. It also features adaptive cruise control, which lets you take your foot off the accelerator while maintaining a consistent speed.

Consumption

Fuel efficiency is another strong point. With a 60-litre fuel tank, the X-Trail covers about eight to 10 kilometers in the city and about 14 km per litre on highways. Of course, your driving style plays a role, the harder you press on the accelerator, the more fuel it uses.

From 2014 to 2017, the X-Trail received updates, including new bumpers and LED headlights. The interior was made slightly roomier, and while some of the plastics were not top-notch, they were generally solid and durable.

Higher-spec Tekna models come with leather seats, and the N-Vision models and above feature a sleek seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation. However, the system could use more modern smartphone mirroring options to keep up with current trends.

Comfort is key in the X-Trail. The front seats offer height adjustments, and there is plenty of headroom, although the panoramic roof in higher-spec models can slightly reduce it.

The middle row of seats is adjustable, making it easier for taller adults to get comfortable. However, three people sitting in the back might feel a bit cramped.

Technology

The X-Trail has seen even more technological upgrades in newer models, from 2018 to 2023, with features such as 4WD and premium leather seats. The 2024 model is already out, although it has not yet reached Uganda.

The 2018-2023 models, however, are available in local bonds, so you can still find a great deal on a relatively recent version.

Whether you are in the market for the 2015 version or a later model, the X-Trail remains a reliable, comfortable, and stylish choice for anyone in need of an SUV that combines practicality with performance.

COST

Pricing for the 2015 X-Trail is around Shs65m, but if you are looking for a newer model, expect to pay a higher price. The 2.5L inline 4 engine powers the 2015 Nissan X-trail. It has 169.0 horsepower and 166.7 pound-feet of torque. It is equipped with an automatic transmission
