Ambassador Grace Akello invites Indian investors to Uganda

The health bilateral relationship between Uganda and India has seen the giant Asian country become one of the leading sources of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) for Uganda.

Investors of Indian origin have hugely invested in the Ugandan economy over the years and this is set to grow even further after Uganda’s ambassador to India H.E Grace Akello in the company of businessman Miraj Barot recently invited potential investors from Gujarati, India.

Meeting at the Shri Satsangi Saketdham “Ram Ashram” Education Trust (SRI educational campus) located at Vadasma in Mehsana district of Gujarat last week, H.E Akello urged Indian investors to consider expanding their footprint in Uganda.

The envoy said Uganda is gifted with a condusive business atmosphere put in place by the government. “This visit is a good opportunity to invite Indian investors to increase their investments in Uganda, our country is ready for foreign investment and we believe that now is the right time to do so,” said H.E Akello.

Mr. Barot, the Managing Director of Tirupati Group Limited, in the same spirit, encouraged Indian investors to explore investment opportunities in Uganda explaining that investing in Uganda is a ‘sure deal’.

“Investors could take advantage of many business opportunities in Uganda in several sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, services, health, education, energy, mining, transport, tourism, banking, ICT, among others,’’ said Mr Barot.

For any Indian investor looking at investing in Uganda, Mr Barot is a good example. Under the Tirupati Group, Mr Barot has excelled tremendously in the real estate, agriculture and manufacturing sectors.

Under the real estate sector, Tirupati Group has put up projects like Namanve Shopping Center, Tirupati Bukoto Shopping Mall, Marina Portbell Apartments, Tirupati Heights, Tirupati New Mazima, Tirupati Towers, Bugolobi Apartments, Mazima Shopping Mall I and Mazima Shopping Mall II.

In Agriculture, Tirupati operates a demonstration farm on 400 acres and maintains a sugarcane plantation on the adjacent 2,500 acres Crops on the demonstration farm include pineapples, maize and onions situated in Kayunga District.

At the same meeting, H.E Akello discussed with the managing trustee of SRI Group Dr Bharat Rao about the potential partnerships that can be developed to benefit students and pharmaceutical industry both in India and Uganda.
