Last year, singer Ava Peace handed over the Zzina award Female Artiste of the Year award to Vinka in a category that she was also nominated. This might have been motivation enough to push her to not only win this year’s same category but also take three others in the highly competitive awards.

Ava Peace, who has had a tremendous year with songs such as Muziki, Bamutwala, Kawala Ka Amooti and Taabu among others also took the Best Collaboration and Best Contemporary Urban song for Taabu as well as Artiste of the Year, which was the biggest.

“I was not expecting this. Too much love. I believe I have worked for this. Last time I was giving out the Best Female artiste of the Year award and did not win any award and today I am taking the female Artiste and Artiste of the Year. Isn’t that exciting?” Ava Peace said in her acceptance speech.

The 12th edition of the annual Zzina Awards that happened at Zzina Towers in Kansanga was much more than just winners picking accolades from the main stage. The event offered more fashion, music and celebrations with guests taking pictures, selfies and interviews on the red carpet before they were ushered into the hall where the awarding and performances were happening.

Tracy Melon opened the performances with the National Anthem before she sang her Kakana song, paving way for Anknown, Recho Ray, Dax Vibes and Ava Peace whose Taabu performance was a joy to watch for the audience.

Dokta Brain, Kataleya and Kandle as well as Elijah Kitaka were the other performers for the night.

Other notable winners included Swangz Avenue’s Benon Mugumbya who was honoured with the Legend Award, Stream Of Life Choir’s Lukusuuta taking the Best Inspirational Song, Kinawolovu taking the Best Dancehall Song, Mudra took the Best Dancehall Artiste while Song of the Year went to Elijah Kitaka’s Dawa.
