Two years ago, Ruyonga teamed up with Zex Bilangilangi and Wonder JR on the Parte Yani track, an afrobeat dancehall jam that dominated charts all over the country. Despite the song not hitting the one million mark yet on YouTube, it was not just one of the biggest songs in 2022 but also the biggest song for the trio – individually.
The trio have been performing the song at different stages and the reception it has been getting is the same. The song gets everyone on their feet immediately it starts playing, just like it did last Friday during Ruyonga’s Bondo O’clock concert at Somewhere Else Bar and Restaurant courtesy of Bond 7.
Parte Yani was the last song Ruyonga performed during the concert and he was joined by Wonder JR on stage. Its reception got everyone in the audience on their feet to sing and dance, with most singing along to the catchy chorus.
Despite being around to support Ruyonga during this show, Zex Bilangilangi had already left when this song was performed and his verse was perfectly executed by Wonder JR. Zex had earlier jumped on a rap battle when the DJ played a freestyle for whoever felt they needed to prove something.
Known as one who can effortlessly jump on any beat and smash it, going by the clips he shares on social media, revellers who attended this concert did not have any doubt about his potential.
Ruyonga is clearly among the top Ugandan rappers and this concert proved exactly that. He was flawless, performing each song with ease and was in control during his performances.
Doing a semi-live set, Ruyonga’s concert was dissected in several segments and in each segment, he came dressed in a different outfit.
The first session started at 8pm and he did songs such as Rruu, Akamuli, Muhulilire, Kitara, Jim and Teli Kuzikiza among others while the last set had him doing four songs, including Hand of God that literally had him go all out with his rap superiority. The climax of this song saw him kneeling, making it a great spiritual experience.
During breaks, other artistes took over and among these included Kenya’s Son of Nation, Santana, Zex Bilangilangi, Uncle Walter and Pryce Teeba among others.
The concert was Ruyonga’s third with the first, Victory concert, coming in 2013 at Kampala Rugby Legends grounds. The second came in 2020 during the pandemic where he staged an online concert that was live on Josh Sb 360 Facebook page and Josh SB 360 official YouTube channel, as the producer of this show.
This concert came after he had just released Kabalega, an 11-track album, named after the legendary Omukama Kabalega of Bunyoro, with each song reflecting different facets of Ugandan life and history.
