All eyes will be on the city of Hyderabad in India this weekend as the world crowns a new queen for the Miss World title at the 72nd edition of the global pageant. And Uganda is being represented by Natasha Nyonyozi, whose progress so far at the pageant has been quite remarkable.

Crowned Miss Uganda in August 2024, Nyonyozi, a 23-year-old accountant and entrepreneur, has been a beacon of purpose-driven beauty. Earlier this year, she won the Beauty with a Purpose from Africa, a great step that propelled her closer to the crown.

Her Beauty with a Purpose project focuses on autism awareness and social inclusion, a cause close to her heart. Through initiatives such as The Autism Walk and Autism Run, she has championed awareness and focus on Autism in Uganda.

If Natasha is crowned Miss World 2025, it will mark a historic first for Uganda and a significant moment for Africa.

This achievement would not only elevate Uganda's presence on the global stage but also spotlight the nation’s commitment to social causes, particularly autism awareness.

A victory for Natasha would be a monumental achievement for Uganda, placing the nation among the African countries that have won the Miss World title.

To date, only five African women have held the crown: Antigone Costanda (Egypt, 1954), Penelope Coelen (South Africa, 1958), Anneline Kriel (South Africa, 1974), Agbani Darego (Nigeria, 2001), and Rolene Strauss (South Africa, 2014).

Such a win would not only be a personal triumph for Natasha but also a source of national pride for Uganda. It would underscore the country’s growing influence in global beauty pageants and its commitment to addressing social issues through such platforms.

The grand finale of the 72nd Miss World Festival is set to take place at the Hyderabad International Trade Expositions Centre this Saturday, with more than 110 contestants from across the globe vying for the crown.
