Travel is my spirit’s fuel and reward - Joggo

oggo Adams during Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is a Formula One motor racing event.

What you need to know:

  • Joggo aspires to travel to the Vatican, and meeting the Pope to pray for him. And while he travels, he makes, keeps and maintains travel connections.

With a laidback demeanour and simplicity, he is the approachable kind. Joggo Adams works hard but does not forget to occasionally reward himself by going out to unwind and have a good laugh at a comedy night, join the crowd at a popular nightspot, go fishing, and even fly out for an experience at the prestigious Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is a Formula One motor racing event.

Creating moments matters

His social media platforms reveal more - a God-fearing family man who is adventurous. He does not necessarily look for happiness but creates moments that will give him joy. One of his blissful moments is watching his favourite team, Liverpool Football Club, play,. And it does not matter whether it will win or not, he WIll proudly wear the team’s jersey any day.

If he went through Entebbbe International Airport and had a good experience, he would happily stop by the beach, kick off his shoes and to be served nicely fried fish and sip on beer in the lake breeze.

If a 2Pac song is played, he will not only dance to it, he will most likely rhyme and rap along to the lyrics.

Formula One

Our conversation started with his experience at the luxurious recently-held Formula One which he attended in Abud Dhabi.

Joggo says being at the circuit which was built in a luxurious style, has always been one of the events he had dreamt of attending to get a feel of the atmosphere in which the world’s rich and famous mix. This would get to mix and satisfy their appetites to a close-to-exclusive and fancy experience.

And since the particular Abu Dhabi edition is always the last one to close the year, it pulls crowds worldwide most especially the who-is-who, ranging from from business moguls, Hollywood film stars, and sports personalities.

Joggo, a businessman, planned to fuse two elements with the trips: do business trips and also have some leisure time.

“I usually travel during my birth month to celebrate the plus one year. Formula One was the main target for this year’s trip,” he says adding: “This time every year, the company I work for tends to stock accessories and consumables of the items we supply. So, I had to utilise this opportunity to go to Abu Dhabi connecting from Dubai and watch the Grand Prix live.”

His work

His kind of work requires him to occasionally move away from family, friends and relatives to go to an upcountry townsuch as Arua to fix a machine. On his way back, he will make good use of the long distance by breaking off to visit Murchison Falls National Park for some sightseeing as he enjoys a drink after a job well done.

More memories

So far, his most memorable travel experience has been touching on the ‘This Is Anfield’ symbol at Liverpool.

“It was a dream come true as is for most football players and fans all over the world.”

But home is the Pearl of Africa, a well-earned acronym in Joggo’s observation, thanks to Uganda’s abundant wildlife and diverse physical features. He goes on, “Uganda is home to the source of River Nile, one of the the longest rivers in the world. It is also home the second largest fresh water lake in the world, the crater lakes, mountain gorillas, the only country with tree-climbing lions, aplace of gorilla and chimpanzee trekking, expansive wildlife reserves and a number of bird species.”

To tourists who have not been to his hometown of Entebbe, he implores them to visit for its conducive environs. “Unlike Kasese and Masaka, the Equator in Entebbe lies just a few kilometres in Lake Victoria and the waves at that point turn anti-clockwise from the southern hemisphere and clockwise from the northern hemisphere. It’s a sensational feeling while seeing it rotating,” Adams notes.

Wishlist

Joggo aspires to travel to the Vatican, and meeting the Pope to pray for him. And while he travels, he makes, keeps and maintains travel connections.

“People love me. There is a time I went to the UK. As soon as I had checked in, everyone was willing to show me around. I moved to most of the cities because of friends who had hosted me and showed me love. I can move in Kampala suburbs calling buddies to check on them and everyone would show up.”

Joggo adds, “I remember very well in lockdown all my buddies would call me for plot. There is no district in Uganda where I do not have someone who knows me or anyone I do not know. So , I believe people keep recommending. Others even think that I am ‘connected somehow somewhere’.”

In it all, travel remains a major hobby which has also become therapy. He has used it to turn bad days into better ones. If he is having a bad day in Kampala, he will get in his car and drive to Entebe to unwind, and return in a better mood.

“Travelling gives me life. I can travel outside Uganda and come back with an increment of five years’ lifespan. Those who know me call me Mr Equipped. I’m always equipped with numerous things (on me), from way back (I’m a duka duka kid Amin/Obote regime). Those days in the 1980s, you would move with parents but with no assurance of returning home soon so we had all the necessities with us.

Therefore, I have a first aid kit, pharmaceuticals, shower bag, cosmetics, laptop, medical file, power bank and chargers, analogue phone, pair of garments plus jackets and shoes. Basically, if you checked me properly you might think I’m shifting,” the travel enthusiast narrates.
