I will be a top film brand in five years 

Hussein Marijan is a television actor. We have seen him in TV series such Deception and Power of Legacy.  He had a chat with Phionah Nassanga.

1. How would you describe yourself?
Down-to-earth with a great humour, especially when you get to know me. 
2. What inspired you into acting? 
When I was in high school, I used to watch many Nigerian and Hollywood movies. I was particularly inspired by Ramsey Noah,  a popular actor from Nollywood.  I looked up to him and longed for the day I would act like him.
3. When was the first time you acted on stage?
The first time I got onto stage was in high school. My house did not have actors to participate in one of the school dramas.  I volunteered and luckily,  I was given a lead role for the play “Mpadde Kingdom.
4. You are always taking on the cheat roles in most of the series, why? Society assumes that all good looking men are players, which is not true. But to answer your question, this is a role that I am often assigned.  Sometimes actors don’t have the luxury of choosing roles. 
5. What lessons has the film industry taught you?
I have learnt that not all that glitters is gold.  Before the public, the industry is characterised by stardom and riches. But this is a fallacy.  It takes a  great deal of work for actors to obtain the riches.  
6. What has been the best moment in your acting career?
When the first episode of Deception was aired, I felt so content and excited. I felt like a dream come true.
8. When you are not acting, what else do you do? 
I do real estate brokerage.  I also deal in cars and I am a voice-over artist.
9. You have acted in many romantic scenes. Are you in any serious relationship? If yes, what does your woman think of such scenes? 
Just the same way you go to work, acting is a job and I cannot be seen to be falling in love with every girl. It is mainly work and we are expected to exhibit the highest degree of professionalism. I am not in a relationship.
10. Among people you have acted with, who is your favourite and why?
Irene Milka.She is very professional and gets the best out of an actor. She is also fun to work with.
11. Are there moments you regret your profession? 
Yes, sometimes I feel people here do not value talent and do not reward it.
12. Where do you see yourself in five years? 
I will be a well-established brand collaborating with one of the biggest film production brands in Uganda and Africa.
13. How do you deal with stalkers?
I know my limits. I know how much I can take in when it comes to strangers. 
14. What do you find attractive in a woman?
I am a little picky, but a God-fearing, intelligent, beautiful woman with a good personality would be my catch. Personality entails being hardworking, smart, kind, generous, a great cook, affectionate with a sense of humour. 
15. If you had to change anything about the Ugandan movie industry, what would that be?
The first thing I would change is professionalism and set a minimum wage for artists. The industry in its current form is extremely exploitative. 
16. How do you want to be remembered? 
I want to be remembered as an exceptional actor in the film industry and challenge the next generation to do better and more professional films. 
19. Who is your role model in the movie world?
 Ramsey Noah. He inspired me to be the actor you see today. His versatility in acting different roles and execution style are unique and enviable.
20. What do you regret most in life?
Giving up on my athletic and soccer dreams. I would be one of Uganda’s top soccer players or a basketballer.

21. How do you spend your lesiure time? 
I have a small circle of friends and live a simple life .I love sports and I am a great cook.  My dream is to become a  celebrated chef, owning a chain of restaurants with my mouthwatering recipes.
