As a colour predicted to be popular in 2025, warm reds exude warmth, confidence and a timeless appeal that evokes nostalgia for earthy vintage aesthetics

While colours today are no longer just a backdrop, but rather designs that evoke emotions and set the tone for how different people experience or would love to envision their homes. This year’s colour trends promise to redefine how we see, use colour and feel at home. Experts explain that while the way we think about colour and how we use it at home is constantly evolving, hues that have dominated recent years such as gray, black and stark white will be replaced with certain warmer and nature-inspired tones.

Whether you are looking to refresh your entire space, colours in 2025 are set to embrace a palette that combines warmth, boldness and a connection to nature, reflecting a balance between vibrancy and tranquility. Although choosing a colour palette that matches with your space can be challenging, Daniel Kiyimba an interior designer notes that it is essential to not only look at trendy hues, but to also consider timeless, functional colours that altogether suit your lifestyle.

Kiyimba says, “When selecting colours in 2025, consider their emotional impact, how they complement your space and natural light, and their ability to create harmony with existing décor while reflecting your personal style with the latest trends.”

Earthy terracotta

Earthy terracotta a warm reddish-brown hue inspired by natural clay and baked earth is another color that is set to be popular in 2025. The balance of red and brown tones gives it a cosy yet vibrant quality which evokes a sense of warmth and tranquility to reflect a collective desire of bringing nature indoors, an aspect that many people are embracing in modern homes.

While earthy terracotta also pairs well with natural textures like wood, rattan and stone, features that are now common in most modern homes, the color enhances the organic feel of a space that resonates with sustainable and environmentally conscious people. It also symbolises heritage and craftsmanship, making it ideal in interior designs, as it can be found on accent walls, ceramic tiles and planters, thus adding depth and warmth to living spaces.

Mustard and earthy yellows

These are warm muted shades of yellow with undertones of brown or orange, typically adding a cheerful yet grounded vibe to interiors and offering a vibrant alternative to traditional neutrals. These hues are expected to gain popularity in 2025 due to their warm, natural and versatile characteristics that enliven spaces without being overwhelming, to create a cosy, balanced and uplifting ambiance. For instance, they pair seamlessly with earthy greens, soft neutrals, warm reds and browns creating harmonious palettes since they can be incorporated to accent walls, textiles or even décor items such as cushions and rugs adding warmth to living spaces.

Soft neutrals

“Rather than stark white and cold spaces, we will see softer neutrals, with natural materials and subtle layering to create a more inviting feel.”

Says Danielle Chiprut, principal designer at Danielle rose Design Company. Soft neutrals are understated muted tones which provide a sense of calmness and simplicity.

They are timeless, sophisticated and ideal for creating serene, inviting and harmonious auras serving as perfect backdrops for minimalist designs. They include shades like beige, cream, taupe, pale gray, stucco, off-white and others such as cinnamon slate, sea salt, glacier white that are expected to be popular in 2025. In a fast pacing world where people desire spaces and designs that feel uncluttered and tranquil, soft neutral embody this simplicity to warm up these designs in the different spaces.

Additionally, remaining a staple of minimalistic design, soft neutrals will continue to thrive in interior spaces, with an inspiration of the use of organic materials like stone, sand and wood, to align with the growing emphasis on sustainability and biophillic design. As soft neutrals also tend to enhance lighting through reflecting natural light that makes spaces feel larger and more open, this colour palette is set to remain popular due to people’s desire of cleanliness and airy aesthetics that are perfect for modern or rustic styles.

Verdant greens

Verdant greens are vibrant lush shades of green inspired by nature, particularly fresh foliage, moss and fields. These greens exude vitality, renewal and connection to the natural world. They range from deep forest greens to brighter grassy tones often carrying earthy or muted undertones that make them versatile and grounding.

As these greens tend to reflect the richness of thriving plant life to symbolise abundance and freshness, many verdant greens have subtle brown or gray undertones which allows them to evoke the outdoors, promoting a sense of tranquility and well-being.

WARM REDS

These are hues that blend the richness and intensity of red with subtle undertones that evoke depth and elegance. Warm reds often lean towards earthy or muted shades such as burgundy, deep wine, oxblood, rosepine, rust and tissue pink (which is soft).

As a colour predicted to be popular in 2025, warm reds exude warmth, confidence and a timeless appeal that evokes nostalgia for earthy vintage aesthetics while still feeling modern and relevant, a color that aligns with current design trends.

Similarly, with an increase in desire for confidence and expression with colour, Erika Woelfel an interior designer adds that warm reds have become popular as they tend to offer a dynamic aesthetic and bold presence in interior spaces. For instance, their bold and rich tones bring a sense of warmth and elegance to design elements, thus adding depth and a timeless quality to rooms, making warm reds suitable for areas intended for relaxation and socialisation.

CHOCOLATE BROWN

Chocolate brown, a deep, rich shade of brown reminiscent of dark chocolate is a warm earthy hue that enhances elegance, comfort and timelessness. Amid the growing awareness of sustainability and eco-friendliness, chocolate browns align with the trend of reconnecting with nature which will make it a popular color in 2025.

While this colour never feels dated, it also adapts well to contemporary design sensibilities as it conveys quality, thus resonating with both luxury (leather furniture, high-end textiles) and minimalist aesthetics due to its simplicity and depth that people are looking for in most modern homes.

As this colour complements various design elements in both contemporary and traditional settings, Bandury recommends using this colour in saturated hues that will evoke a mood and deliver warmth to any space.
Chocolate brown include shades such as saddle brown.
