Christmas discounts are a good way to plan ahead, save money, and reduce your Christmas expenses. In this story, we explore the different discounts on home fixtures and how you can get the most out of them.
With the festive season comes a lot of exciting offers and discounts. Shops that deal in home fixtures have now discounted various items, and as a homeowner, you can take advantage of this opportunity to give your home a facelift.
Some of the items that have been discounted include kitchenware, sanitary ware, tiles, lights, sofa sets, coffee sets, dining tables, and carpets, among others. So, if you have always wanted to change the look of your home but have been held back by a tight budget, now is your chance to make your dream come true.
You can choose to give the entire house a facelift or focus on specific areas as explained below.
Floor tiles
According to Ms. Hadijah Luwedde, a manager at Mirage Tiles in the Industrial Area, there are different types of tiles on the market. These include ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone tiles, among others.
She explains, “Depending on what you can afford, these tiles can be used on the floor, walls, for elevation, kitchen worktops, and staircases. They also come in different sizes, designs and colours.”
Therefore, depending on the area in your house that needs a facelift, tiles in the industrial area have been discounted from between 20 to 30 percent. This means that initially, they ranged from Shs45,000 to Shs400,000 a box, but with the discount, they now range from Shs23,000 to Shs384,00.
Handwash basins
Just like the tiles, these too come in different sizes, types, colours and materials. The handwash basin with a peddle have been discounted to range from Shs81,500 to 140,000.
The hand wash table top basins range from Shs100,000 to Shs250,000. The stand basins now range from Shs435,000 to Shs1,234,000.
Shower cabins, bath tab and Jacuzzis
In case you want to spice up your bathing area, you can opt for either an ordinary bath tab or one that doubles as a jacuzzi or just a shower cabin. Depending on your choice, these now range from Shs1,400,000 to Shs6,000,000.
Shower mixers
If the cost of the tab or shower cabin is more than your budget, you can opt for just changing the shower mixer. Ms Luwedde says these are in different sizes and colours and some come with different extras.
The shower mixers have been discounted to cost between Shs200,000 to Shs500,000.
Toilet seats
These too have been discounted and available in different colours, types, and sizes. So, if you have been struggling with space in your bathroom, now is a chance to get an affordable toilet seat that will fit in your small bathroom. These have been discounted to cost between Shs201,000 to Shs1,389,000.
Faucets / taps and water heaters
These are available in different sizes, shapes and with varying pressure abilities. Therefore, if you want to change the type of tap in your kitchen, your handwash basin in the dining area or in your bathroom, these have been discounted to cost between Shs12,000 to Shs250,000.
You can also change your water heater. These now range from Shs250,000 to Shs600,000 depending on the capacity.
Sitting and dining roomSofa and coffee set
You might have for a long time wanted to change your sofa set or spice-up the existing set to add either a coloured chair or a floral one. Now is the time. With the available discounts on sofa sets that ranges from 20 to 30 per cent, you can get your dream sofa.
The costs for an eight-seater set has been reduced from between Shs18 million to Shs6 million to between Shs16 million to Shs4 million.
The coffee sets have been reduced from between Shs2.8 million to 1.2 million to Shs2 million to Shs500,000.
Dining tables
Dining tables now range from Shs3million to Shs1.5 for a four-seater. However, when buying any furniture, Mr Ali Usman, the Managing Director of Romaissa Furniture Manufacturer Uganda Limited notes that even with the discounts, customers should pay attention to the quality of the furniture.
“Its important that you buy furniture made out of hard wood such as mahogany. Such furniture will last and its beauty will not easily fade as compared to furniture made out of soft wood.”
Carpets
These have been discounted from between 30 to 50 percent. This means you can get a carpet that once cost Shs300,000 at Shs150,000 with the ongoing discount.
Therefore, during this season you can buy that carpet you always wanted at a much lower price.
