  • Technical and vocational institutions have also received their schedules. Students in health training institutions, such as nursing and midwifery, will begin their academic year on January 25 and conclude on June 27, 2025.

The Ministry of Education has released the official 2025 school calendar for primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, detailing key reporting dates for learners at various levels, including those transitioning to new classes.

According to the schedule, Primary Seven candidates who sat for the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) will join Senior One on February 10, 2025.

Similarly, Senior Four candidates who completed the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) will join Senior Five on February 24, 2025.

To ensure a smooth transition, placement for PLE candidates is slated for January 27 and 28, while UCE candidates will have their placement conducted on February 6 and 7.

For all other learners, term one will begin on February 3 and run until May 2, 2025.

The second term will commence on May 26 and end on August 22, while the third term will start on September 15 and conclude on December 5.

The first term holidays will run from May 3 to May 25, the second term holidays will run from August 23 to September 14, and the third term holidays will run from December 6 until February 1, 2026.

Dr Kedrace Turyagyenda, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education, emphasised the importance of adhering to the specified dates.

She urged schools to ensure teaching and learning begin promptly at the start of each term and cautioned against cutting terms short without prior written permission from her office.

“Teaching and learning should start promptly at the beginning of each school term and the school terms should not be cut short without prior written permission from the permanent secretary,” Dr Turyagyenda said.

The ministry also warned institutions, particularly those within the Kampala Metropolitan area, to stagger reporting dates for different classes during the week preceding the official opening and closing of school terms. This measure is aimed at mitigating traffic congestion during those critical periods.

Technical and vocational institutions have also received their schedules. Students in health training institutions, such as nursing and midwifery, will begin their academic year on January 25 and conclude on June 27, 2025.

Allied health institutions are expected to start on February 3 and end on June 27. Detailed dates for other technical and vocational institutions are available on the ministry’s online platforms.
