‘We wish you a Merry Christmas’

Archbishop Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu

What you need to know:

  • It is our prayer that this year’s Christmas season will inspire us to extend these values to one another and to foster peace in our diverse society.

As Ugandans join the rest of the world to celebrate the birth of Jesus, a section of leaders have shared their advice to the believers.

Archbishop Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu

This Christmas, I call upon you to acknowledge that our God is a God who gives. He gave us His only Son so that all who believe in Him might not perish but have everlasting life. This was prophesied by Isaiah when he said, “To us, a child is born, a Son is given. Our God is a God who also gives us a Wonderful Counsellor in Jesus Christ. Too many of us look in the wrong places for answers to our challenges. We look on social media or to our age-mates, but I want you to know that most of the so-called “answers” on social media are not true. People are just forwarding lies. If you want “wonderful counsel,” then look to the “Wonderful Counsellor.” Look to Jesus, whose birth we celebrate this Christmas. The Government of Uganda is commencing the vaccination of children against malaria starting April 2025. The malaria vaccine, intended for children below two years, will be introduced in the routine immunisation schedule. I encourage parents and caregivers to take their children to the nearest health facilities for vaccination against malaria. Mary and Joseph took responsibility for their newborn son Jesus, ensuring His health was well. I urge you all to take care of your children, especially now that they are on holiday. I also want to alert all students, parents, and teachers about the dangers of individuals trying to lure children into homosexuality with promises of money and sponsorship. Children, please report such people to your head teachers and parents.

Inter-religious Council of Uganda’s statement read by Dr Joseph Sserwadda

We extend our warmest wishes to our Christian brothers and sisters, who observe this historic and sacred occasion of Christmas. In the spirit of unity, we encourage our adherents of all faiths to embrace the values of love, charity, peace, compassion, harmony and kindness that Christmas symbolises. It is our prayer that this year’s Christmas season will inspire us to extend these values to one another and to foster peace in our diverse society. As we look forward to 2025, let us be united as a nation grounded in our faiths and values. Together, we can overcome challenges and lay the foundation for a brighter, more prosperous future.

Harold Kaija, People’s Front For Freedom(PFF)

As we celebrate Christmas, let us remember Jesus Christ, the man who saved us from bondage. Those who are in captivity should know that captivity has got an end. We should pray that Jesus leads them into a Uganda that will see them celebrate the next Christmas in a country that is free from captivity. David Lewis Lubongoya, Secretary General, National Unity Platform (NUP) I wish everyone a Merry Christmas. We have faced quite several challenges this year but, we should thank God that we have been able to reach where we are today. I know we are in hard economic times, but I encourage you to share the little you have with others. Christmas is about celebrating and sharing with others. As you celebrate, I encourage you to have enough rest and recharge for next year because there are so many things that we shall look up to, such as political campaigns.

Joel Ssenyonyi, Leader of Opposition in Parliament. As we celebrate Christmas, may the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ re-awaken the conscience of our country, and cause us to bring glory to His name in all we do. May we as leaders lead better, be accountable, and emulate the leadership of Jesus in how He treated those whom He led. As the new year beacons, may we all as a people be filled with hope for a better tomorrow. I wish every Ugandan a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Robinah Nabbanja, Prime Minister

Christmas is a time for reflection and celebration. We thank God for the many achievements we have made this year in our efforts to transform our country. As we celebrate Christmas and look forward to a new year, lets all focus our efforts towards the target of having all Ugandans join the money economy. Let us continue to embrace love, compassion, charity, faithfulness and care for one another.
