Police in Kampala have recorded statements from at least 10 witnesses regarding the ongoing inquiry into the death of a patron at one of the top nightclubs in Kampala.
Martha Ahumuza Murari, 23, collapsed at Mezo Noir nightclub in the wee hours of Thursday morning before she was pronounced dead at a hospital where she had been rushed for treatment hours later.
She enjoyed a night out at the popular Kololo-based hangout, where she allegedly collapsed after consuming an alcoholic beverage, according to detectives.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Mr Patrick Onyango told this publication on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, that they have recorded statements from relevant witnesses and the prime suspect who are in their custody.
According to Mr Onyango, police are still waiting for the postmortem and the forensic reports before their file can be forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for perusal and legal advice.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that Ahumuza met her friend, one Edward Mugabo, a cashier at the nightclub, on the fateful day at around 2 am and they drank together until 3:30 am. The two allegedly moved to the manager's office, where Ahumuza allegedly collapsed.
Ahumuza had reportedly been invited to Mezo Noir nightclub by Magabo.
She was rushed to Kampala Hospital by Mugabo and his brother, Joseph Kalenzi before she was put on life support and later pronounced dead.
