What you need to know:

  • Uneb last year conducted two sets of examinations; one under the new lower secondary curriculum and the other under the old curriculum to enable the learners who failed the 2023 UCE transition to A’level.

At least 8,113 candidates who sat for the 2024 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) under the old curriculum have passed their examinations, according to Uganda National Examination Board (Uneb).

Uneb last year conducted two sets of examinations; one under the new lower secondary curriculum and the other under the old curriculum to enable the learners who failed the 2023 UCE transition to A’level.

Releasing the results at Nakasero State Lodge on Tuesday, the board’s executive director, Mr Daniel Odongo said that a total of 10,141 candidates (5,373 females and 4,379 males) registered for the examinations under the old curriculum.

Of the 9,742 candidates who turned up for the examinations, 80 have passed in division one; 503 in second division; 1,710 in division three wile 5,820 in division four.

A total of 1,629 candidates failed the examinations and are ungraded.

At least 399 candidates did not avail themselves for the transition exams.

"813 (8.0%) are beneficiaries of the USE programme and 8,929 (88.0%) are Non-USE," Mr Odongo said.

In terms of gender, male candidates performed slightly better than their female counterparts

Mr Odongo noted that there were few cases of malpractice especially external assistance and impersonation.

Consequently, UNEB said it will withhold the results in accordance with the law.

"The overall results show that 350,146 (98.05%) of the candidates who sat qualified for the UCE certificate. This will be indicated on the Transcript and Certificate as Result 1," Mr Odongo said.
The candidates who did not fulfil the conditions for the award of the UCE certificate will have Result 2 indicated on their transcripts.

According to Uneb, results will be uploaded on the examination centre Portals and heads of UCE examination Centres can, therefore, download their results as soon as they are officially released.
"No hard copies are available but Examination Centres that may be interested will be notified as soon as they are ready for collection from UNEB offices, Ntinda," Mr Odongo emphasized.
