Apology to Attorney General - Hon Kiryowa Kiwanuka, SC

In our February 2, 2025, edition, we published a story titled “Ssemakadde accuses Kiryowa in Museveni letter, demands ouster.”

The story was based on a letter by the President of the Uganda Law Society, Mr Isaac Ssemakadde, to His Excellency the President of Uganda. It contained wide-ranging allegations of impropriety levelled against the Attorney General of the Republic of Uganda - Hon. Kiryowa Kiwanuka, SC. 

We should have done more to independently substantiate the truthfulness of the claims in the said letter, which informed our story. We did not do that and should, therefore, not have published the unverified and unsubstantiated allegations. We are sorry.

We therefore hereby retract the said story in its entirety and unreservedly apologise to Hon. Kiryowa Kiwanuka SC, and all those affected by the publication for the distress, embarrassment, ridicule and humiliation caused by the publication.
