  • This is the second serious crash reported at the same spot in less than a month, according to police

A two-month-old baby died Wednesday after the driver of the Toyota Hiace taxi he was travelling in overturned on Kabale-Mbarara road in Kabale District, leaving seven other passengers injured.

Kigezi region police spokesman, Mr Elly Maate identified the deceased as Mikel Turyamureeba.
The injured are; Saturina Katusiime, 20; Gadi Nabataki, 43; Alice Biira, 47; Rose Komugabe, 49; Prudence Kyarisima, 27; Precious Ayebazibwe, 11, and a male juvenile only identified as Turyamutunga.

“The driver of the taxi registration number UBK 650N which plies Kasese-Kabale route lost control and over turned at Kabaraga hill, about 8km to Kabale town, injuring seven passengers and causing one death on spot,” Mr Maate said following the 10am crash.

The crash scene was reportedly visited by the officer in charge of traffic police at Kabale police station, ASP Wilson Mucunguzi and his team. The victims were rushed to Kabale referral hospital using Kabale referral ambulance and the body of the deceased was taken to Kabale hospital mortuary for the postmortem.
The wreckage of the car was towed to Kabale central police station pending inspection as police inquiries continue.

The officer in charge of traffic police at Kabale police station ASP Wilson Mucunguzi said although Kabaraga hill has become a blackspot for accidents in the district, he advised all the road users to always keep in their lane for easy view of any other incoming traffic.

“Drivers should always service their vehicles before putting them on road, besides observing daily checkups of their vehicles to avoid the avoidable accidents,” ASP Mucunguzi said.

According to him, police recorded two serious accidents around the Kabaraga hill ever since the year began, although hit and run are many.
