Bishop Luwalira tells parents to be responsible

KAMPALA.
A Church of Uganda bishop has rebuked irresponsible parents and asked them to start carrying out their responsibilities of inculcating good moral values in their children and not shift that role to teachers.
The Rt Reverend Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira, the bishop of Namirembe diocese, said on Saturday that some parents think that a mere fact that they have taken their children to school, their parenthood role ends at there.
“God has given you responsibilities as parents. Do not neglect your responsibility. I have heard parents say to their children that [when children misbehave] ‘I will take you to school and teachers will sort you out’. It is your reasonability as a parent, not teachers,” Bishop Luwalira said while officiating at celebrations to mark 25 years of Green Hill Academy’s existence. The function took place at Kibuli, Kampala.
Bishop Luwalira also asked schools to inculcate in children values that exalt God if the moral deficits that has resulted into killings, kidnaps and corruption among other evils are to be overcome.
Mr Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, the Greenhill Holdings head, agreed with the Bishop saying “sometimes, you call a parent informing him or her that your child is misbehaving and that parents says “sort it out”.
Mr Nsibirwa also said that the school is going to change many things in the next 25 years as they respond to the job market demands.
“As we go into another 25 years, we are going to focus on digital education. The world is changing and changing very fast so we need to align ourselves with the demands of the world. Learners should use the best tools, e-learning, visual libraries ….” he said.
