Police in Buvuma District are investigating circumstances under which a 45-year-old fisherman died by drowning after a fight with the husband of a woman he has reportedly been dating.
Stephen Nanyungi, a resident of Gayaza village in Ziiru Ward, Lyabaana Town council is alleged to have killed himself by drowning.

Narrating how the Tuesday incident unfolded, Ms Hellen Butoto, the Ssezibwa Regional Police spokesperson said that during Christmas festivities, one Ms Amida Tebazire, the wife of Mr Ronald Mubiru left her husband’s home to visit her parents’ in the island district.

Tebazire reportedly stayed at her parents’ home until January 4 when she left but instead of returning to her husband's home, she went to her lover's (Nanyungi).
However, on January 6, Mr Mubiru got reports that Tebazire had been seen at Nanyungi's home.
"When he went at Nanyungi's home, Mubiru found his wife seated with the adulterous man. A fierce fight broke out between the two men," a local leader in Lyabaana Town council who preferred not to be named said.

Area residents intervened in the fight, taking away the woman and condemning Nanyungi for falling in love with a married woman.
Ms Butoto said an angry Nanyungi later told his friends that he would kill himself because Tebazire had not told him that she was married.
"He started distributing his personal belongings amongst us (his friends) but we thought it was one of his usual jokes," one resident said.

However, at around 1pm Tuesday Nanyungi shocked residents when he jumped into the lake and drowned.
Ms Butoto said the body was retrieved by local fishermen and handed over to relatives for burial as investigations go on.
