Casual labourer kills four family members

A hunt for a man who allegedly used a panga to kill four members of his family in Kisoro District has started.

Police say the suspect committed the gruesome murder on Thursday at Kageyo village, Nyarubuye Sub-county.

Mr Elly Maate, the police spokesman in Kigezi region on Friday identified the victims as Deogratious Sebitama, 80, Bonconsira Nyiraguhirwa, 75, Maliserina Mujawimanna, 26 and Joan Nyinamahoro, 20.

Sebitama was the suspect’s father while Mujawimanna was his wife.

He added that the suspect had just arrived from Masaka District where he worked as a casual labourer.

“The motive of killing is not known although he [suspect] has a history of mental illness,” Mr Maate said.

Mr Maate said that police visited the scene of crime where the four bodies are lying pending a post-mortem.

Mr Edward Iradukunda, a family member said he sustained an injury on the arm after being attacked by the fuming suspect.
