Couple remanded over son’s murder

The Grade One Magistrate’s Court in Pallisa District has remanded a couple for alleged murder of a 14-year-old boy.

PALLISA. The Grade One Magistrate’s Court in Pallisa District has remanded a couple for alleged murder of a 14-year-old boy.
Particulars of the case state that on May 6, Mr Peter Okiring, aged 37, and his wife Florence Namuloni, 27, residents of Gulamanyi village, Tekwana parish, Kakoro Sub-county in Pallisa conspired and brutally killed Peter Okiring with a hoe.
The couple were charged before Magistrate Dorothy Bagyenyi this week.

The prosecutor, Ms Beatrice Owori, alleged that Mr Okiring under the influence of alcohol at around 11pm stormed the child’s grass-thatched hut and hacked him to death with a hoe.
It’s alleged that Okiring killed his own child after his wife reported to him the boy’s bad behaviour.
The deceased was a pupil at Kakoro Township Primary School. The boy’s mother had divorced Mr Okiring while the child had been staying with the step-mother.

The father reacted rashly under the influence of alcohol and used a hoe to crash the boy’s head.
Blood-stained clothes of the child were recovered hanging in a pit-latrine, prompting police to arrest the duo as prime suspects.
The couple was first detained at Pallisa Central Police Station before they were charged in court.

Postmortem
The body was taken to Mbale Hospital and the postmortem examination confirmed the child suffered a broken skull and several injuries.
“This was total abuse of children’s rights. It was unfortunate and regrettable incident for the child to be killed under such circumstances,” said Mr Sowali Kamulya, the Bukedi region police spokesperson.
