Covid-19: Kapchorwa Hospital closed after 19 medics test positive

Several medical departments at Kapchorwa Hospital where several members of staff have been affected by Covid-19 have been closed.

A Wednesday directive by the Chief Administrative Office (CAO) Mr Simon Peter Kandole says that only the laboratory, maternity and theatre shall partially function to attend to emergencies.

He said that departments’ operations have been halted by the Medical Superintendent on advise of the hospital board effective Wednesday.

The closed departments are; pharmacy, female ward, children’s ward, outpatient department, chronic care and the male ward.

Mr Kandole said that the Covid-19 pandemic has affected over 50 staff of Kapchorwa Hospital  and three government staff have died at the hospital.

He said that the laboratory, maternity and the theatre shall partially function to attend to emergencies.

The hospital administrator Mr Edward Chelangat said that out of the 59 staff members of the hospital, 19 have tested positive for Covid-19 and one of them is in critical condition at Entebbe Hospital.
