Eight health workers test positive for Covid-19

Ntungamo- Five health workers and three support staff at Kitwe Health Centre IV in Ntungamo District have tested positive for Covid-19 leaving patients and residents in panic.

Ntungamo District Health officer, Dr Richard Bakamuturaki confirmed that the health workers tested positive on Monday.

According to Dr Bakamuturaki, Ministry officials in Kampala ordered the fumigation and disinfection of the health centre since it has to offer services to residents.

The In-charge of the Kitwe Health Centre IV, Dr Ambrose Okello said that all eight Covid-19 patients were taken to Kabale Hospital to receive treatment.

He said that all health workers at the hospital would be tested.

He said that they would focus on handling emergencies like deliveries and offering anti-retroviral drugs.

Ntungamo District has registered 37 cases of Covid-19 since March when the disease broke out in the country.

The disease has claimed three people in the district.

Tests that were done nationwide on November 23, confirmed 241 new cases, which brings the cumulative confirmed cases in Uganda to 18,406 and 186 fatalities.
