Ms Baroda Kayanga Watongola, a 27-year-old daughter of former Kamuli Municipality Member of Parliament (MP), Hajat Rehema Watongola, has been nominated to contest for the vacant seat.

Watongola died from Coronavirus recently.

Ms Kayanga was nominated by Ms Kenneth Kayabwe on Tuesday at Electoral Commission office in Kamuli town.

Ms Kayanga chose a chair as her campaign and election symbol.

“Death robbed us of a leader and it merely put a coma not full stop to her political dreams for the municipality. I am honoured to be nominated to continue from the coma, ready to serve her people so that her spirit dwells in peace,” Ms Kayanga said after the nomination.

Others in the race as Ms Mastula Namatovu (National Resistance Movement), Ms Moses Bigirwa (National Unity Platform) and Eng Godfrey Mugoya (Independent).

Watongola died on November 14 and was laid to rest on November 16, at Butende, Kamuli.

During the burial, some family members alleged that Coronavirus was merely an opportunistic disease that killed her after allegedly being poisoned.

Ms Kayanga holds a Diploma in Community Based Rehabilitation from Kyambogo University where she is pursuing a degree in the same field.
