Police in the Greater Masaka Sub-region are investigating the circumstances surrounding the poisoning of a family of six, which resulted in the deaths of two children.

The incident occurred at the home of Henry Kaganzi in Bulenzi B Village, Lwabenge Sub County, Kalungu District on Saturday.

The deceased children have been identified as 6-year-old Esther Nattabi and 4-year-old Tabitha Nantaayi. Four other family members, including Kaganzi's wife, are currently struggling for their lives at St. Monica Birongo Health Centre, where they were rushed after the incident on Saturday evening around 8 pm.

Kaganzi expressed shock upon discovering his family in distress after consuming food allegedly laced with poison.

"I was shocked to find my family crying for help after eating food which is said to have been laced with poison, which led to the death of my two children," he said. He added that he raised alarms, and residents helped him rush the other family members to the hospital.

Southern Regional Police Spokesperson, Twaha Kasirye, condemned the incident and confirmed that investigations are underway.

"Police investigation into the matter has kicked off," he said. Kasirye revealed that two suspects, Vincent Jjingo and his wife Agnes Nabuuma, have been arrested to assist with the investigations.
