Four top UPDF officers promoted

The First son and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba on Wednesday announced the promotion of four senior Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) officers from the rank of brigadier general to acting major general rank.
UPDF public information officer Felix Kulayigye indicated in a brief Wednesday statement that Brig Gen Stephen Mugerwa, who was the deputy commander of the army’s 1st infantry division in Mbarara, has been promoted to acting major general and appointed commander of 1st Division Kakiri (Wakiso District).
Brig Gen Paul Muhanguzi, the commander of the 2nd division Mbarara has been promoted to acting Maj Gen while Brig Gen Felix Busizori, commander of the 4th Infantry Gulu division and his counterpart Keith Katungi (Commander Infantry division Lang Sub-region) were equally promoted to acting major general.
Army sources say Wednesday's promotions are in accordance with the new UPDF establishment- and as recommended by the army's committee for implementation of the latest military establishment and the promotions and commissions board, per the UPDF legislation.

The new establishment allows Gen Muhoozi to promote army officers to acting positions and ranks, pending approval by Commander in Chief President Museveni.
If approved, this would be the third time Museveni is promoting senior army officers- and confirming officers from junior ranks to senior ranks.
In January, Museveni promoted 382 senior officers and confirmed 13 officers from junior ranks to senior ranks.
In July 2024, he promoted 898 officers to different ranks and confirmed 20 from junior ranks to senior ranks.
