- Arua gold dealer falls victim to employee-led robbery of Shs500 million.
A prominent gold dealer and businessman in Arua City has been robbed of cash and gold worth Shs 500 million by two of his employees, authorities said on Tuesday.
Husmukhbhai Gadder, 22, a resident of Arua Hospital Cell in Arua Central Division and the manager of SAGEMIN Trading Ltd, was allegedly held at knifepoint on Sunday evening by his two Tanzanian employees, who forced him to hand over valuables including gold and money.
According to acting West Nile regional police spokesman, Collins Asea, the suspects first switched off electricity, then entered Gadder’s office where they threatened to kill him if he resisted or raised alarm.
“They covered the victim’s mouth with cell tape, tied him to a chair with ropes, and secured his legs before taking the cash and gold, placing them in a bag found in the office. They then fled the scene,” Asea told journalists.
After approximately 30 minutes, Gadder managed to free himself, jumping from his office to the gate where he was assisted by a boda-boda rider, who untied him and removed the cell tape from his mouth. He later reported the robbery to Arua Central Police Station.
Investigations are underway, but no arrests have been made so far.
This robbery follows a similar incident last year, in which gold dealers in Arua were targeted and Shs420 million stolen at gunpoint. The perpetrators remain at large.
