An inmate at Luzira prison has decried what he called continued coercion by a lawyer to change his statement.

Yunus Magom, 35, is facing two charges of threatening violence and criminal trespass.

The inmate through his lawyer, Mr Richard Omongole, on Friday told Entebbe Chief Magistrate’s Court of how he was he was approached on several occasions to change his statement concerning a land wrangle in Entebbe.

“We would want the court to take note that my client is being approached in the prison by unidentified security personnel to change his statement. The same thing has been done even today when he was still in the court cells awaiting to be brought in court,” Mr Omongole told court. Magom had appeared in court for the ruling on his bail application.

The presiding chief magistrate, Ms Stella Amabilis, asked Magom to identify the person if they were present and he pointed to him.

However, Ms Amabilise said the person accused is Mr Edward Ndahura, a lawyer,  who had been the inmate’s state representative.

Mr Ndahura denied the accusations.

The magistrate adjourned the matter to November 14.
