The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Uganda, Mr Majid Saffar, has made a passionate call to the world to prioritise bringing peace to Palestine, emphasising that it's no longer just a Muslim issue, but a humanity issue.

Speaking at the commemoration of International Quds Day in Gaba-Kampala on March 27, 2025, Saffar stressed, "Palestine is not an issue for only Muslims but humanity for all servants of God regardless of backgrounds. Condemnation alone is not enough but followed by boycott, sanctions, and judicial actions."

He urged participants to continue educating and raising awareness about the ongoing injustices and insurgencies in the Middle East, and to always take a step forward in defense of Palestine.

"It is a great honor to be part of the people who want to remind the world about defending the rights of people under oppression," Saffar said.

The International Quds Day event, organised by the Cultural Consulate of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Kampala University, brought together speakers who centered on preaching for peace and emphasising the devastating impact of the Palestine war, which has claimed over 10,000 lives since its outbreak in October last year.

Mr Abdollah Abbasi, the Iranian Cultural Counselor, noted that Quds Day is the best time to reflect on the oppressed Palestinian people, who are suffering at the hands of "tyrannical western countries" supporting the "child-killing regime of Israel". He called upon participants to show solidarity and empathy with the Palestinian people, as declared by Imam Khomeini.

"We must rally behind the Palestinian people, who are fighting for their rights and freedom. We must condemn the atrocities committed by the Israeli regime and support the Palestinian people in their struggle for justice," Abbasi said.

Other speakers, including Mr Issah Katungulu Luyimbaazi, the African Youth Ambassador of the World African Diaspora Union, and the Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan, echoed similar sentiments, emphasising the importance of unity and solidarity in supporting the Palestinian people.

Luyimbaazi noted that Quds Day has become a symbol of unity for humanity, transcending religious and cultural boundaries. "Free thinkers usually condemn the United States and Western states for lending support to Israel in its war on Gaza," he said.

The Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan recognised the charismatic leadership of Imam Khomeini for declaring International Quds Day to show solidarity with the oppressed Palestinian people.

"As the government of Sudan, we have been supporting the Palestinian people since the 1950s, and we will continue to do so until they achieve their freedom and independence," he said.
