Judiciary to honour ex- deputy chief justice

KAMPALA. The Judiciary will today hold a special court sitting in honour of the former deputy Chief Justice emeritus, Eulalia Mary Mukasa-Kikonyogo.

The event will be held at the Judiciary headquarters, Kampala High Court Grounds.
Justice Kikonyogo, who until the time of her death, suffered from Parkinson’s disease, was pronounced dead on November 23 while being taken to Mulago Hospital following a heart attack.

Family members said the deceased was sick for more than five years.
Chief Justice Bart Katureebe has directed the Judiciary to hold a special event to honour the late justice Kikonyogo for her contribution during her 39-year service in the Judiciary.

The senior communications officer of Judiciary, Mr Solomon Muyita, said: “It is very appropriate for the Judiciary to honour her in a dignified manner.”
Described as charismatic, passionate, warm and wise, Justice Kikonyogo died at the age of 77.
She was the first female magistrate, rising through the ranks to become the first female deputy Chief Justice.
According to the arrangements, there will also be a requiem mass on Thursday at Rubaga Cathedral, and another one at Lweza Catholic Church after which a vigil will be held at her residence in Kitende, Wakiso District.

Mr Muyita said the late Kikonyogo will be laid to rest at Mityana District on Saturday.
