The Kabaka (king) of Buganda Kingdom, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, has returned to Uganda after spending a month in Germany for a medical review.
Kabaka Mutebi, who arrived on Friday morning, was received at Entebbe International airport by the Mengo’s first deputy premier, Twaha Kawaase, alongside other top officials from the kingdom.
The Kabaka travelled to Germany on June 5, 2025 for a medical review following recommendations from his doctors. It has been nearly a year since he returned from Namibia, where he underwent intensive treatment and evaluations.
“According to the medical reports, doctors are happy with the progress, and they have indicated that they are still monitoring him even when he is here in Uganda,” Hajj Kawaase told journalists in Kampala.
He added that the Kingdom was committed to supporting the Kabaka’s health and recovery journey.
“We promise to follow all the instructions from his doctors because we want him alive so that his subjects can push the kingdom activities well without worrying about his health,” he said.
Namibia Visit
Kabaka Mutebi II was taken to Namibia in April 2024 for a private medical visit and was kept at an undisclosed location for months.
His absence sparked concern and speculation among some of his subjects due to the scanty details or lack of clear communication about his trip at the time.
Buganda Premier Charles Peter Mayiga later clarified that the trip to Namibia was a medical arrangement by the kingdom.
“Taking the King to Namibia was an arrangement in accordance with the recommendation by medical experts for Kabaka’s proper recovery,” he said at the time.
Upon his return, Mr Mayiga reiterated that the monarch’s health was Mengo government’s priority.
