Police in Kamuli District are investigating an incident in which a local businessman was attacked by unidentified armed thugs who shot him dead.
Businessman Peter Musiira, according to Kiira region police spokesperson, Mr James Mubi, was attacked at around 8:30am on Thursday (March 13, 2025), in a valley separating Luzinga from Buwenge Town Council in Jinja.
Musiira, who owned a hardware shop in Luzinga central trading center, was riding a motorcycle from Bubale village to Buwenge town when the attack happened. The suspects, traveling in an unidentified Salon car, intercepted the motorcycle and opened fire, shooting Musiira in the leg and chest.
"The suspects released four bullets at Musiira, which killed him instantly," Mr Mubi said. The thugs also allegedly undressed Musiira, making off with his trousers, boxer shorts, and mobile phones.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident, with the Kiira regional police commander, Mr Charles Nsaba, ordering a speedy joint effort to arrest the culprits. The Boda Boda rider and female passenger who were the first eyewitnesses have been arrested to aid in the investigation.
“Police recovered four cartridges at the scene during their robust response led by Buwenge Police commander Mr Moris Oyeti,’’ Mr Mubi said.
Dr Mande Johnson Agaba, head of the Kiira regional police criminal intelligence investigations department, expressed his commitment to ensuring justice for Musiira's family.
"Expeditious efforts are being taken to ensure that the family of the deceased get justice by arresting the suspects," Dr Agaba said.
The police are appealing to anyone with information about the suspects' movements to come forward and assist in the investigation. Dr Agaba also advised the suspects to voluntarily surrender to the police, as their apprehension is imminent.
"We appeal to anybody with information about the movements of the suspects to provide it for quick action to be taken," Dr Agaba said.
