What you need to know:

At the time of his death,  Robert Aldridge Kasango was serving a 16-year jail term after he was convicted in 2018 for conspiring to forge a court order, a certificate of taxation and a certificate of costs directing the Attorney General to pay his law firm Shs15.4b in connection with pension money.

By press time last evening, the body of lawyer Robert Aldridge Kasango, alias Bob, was still being kept at A-Plus Funeral Management home at Mengo in Kampala.
The body of the late lawyer was taken to the funeral home after it was intercepted from mourners who had hijacked it from All Saints Cathedral, Nakasero, after the funeral service on Tuesday.

“The body is still at Mengo at the funeral home until the two warring families amicably agree on where to bury it,” Mr Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan deputy spokesperson, told this newspaper last evening.
There were dramatic scenes at All Saints Cathedral, Nakasero, on Tuesday when a group of people led by Kasango’s mother Rose Kabise, confronted other mourners led by Kasango’s widow Nice Bitarabeho Kasango, grabbed the casket containing the lawyer’s remains, put it on a truck, and sped off towards Tororo for burial.

Ms Kabise wants her son buried at his ancestral home in Tororo District contrary to the burial plans made by Ms Kasango to have the lawyer buried in Fort Portal, where the family allegedly acquired land.
There were reports yesterday that Kasango’s body had been airlifted in the middle of Tuesday night to Fort Portal for burial.

However, Kasango’s sister only indentified as Immaculate, dismissed the news as propaganda by the Fort Portal group to deceive the public that the body has been taken.
“We are camping at the funeral home to closely watch over the body and it is still here. He must be buried home in Tororo,” Immaculate said in an interview yesterday.
According to initial burial arrangements, Kasango was to be buried today at Gweri Village in Fort Portal City.
He succumbed to heart related complications on Saturday inside Luzira prison in Kampala.
