Kween man kills wife over local brew dispute - police

Police in Kween District, Eastern Uganda have arrested a man on allegations of killing his wife following a domestic dispute at a drinking joint.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at Chemuron Village in Sundet Sub-county when Kevin Arapsoi, allegedly attacked his wife, Monica Cheptoyek, 32, at a local bar.
Sipi region police spokesperson, Mr Fredmark Chesang said Cheptoyek had been drinking at a bar owned by one Ms Caro Nabukwasi when the altercation broke out.
"Cheptoyek reportedly bought waragi (locally distilled alocohol) for her brother-in-law, Simon Mangusho, alias Simon Kambuya, which allegedly angered her husband," Mr Chesang said.
He added that Arapsoi left the bar, went home, picked a panga, and returned to the scene where he allegedly hacked his wife on the head and hand.
Volunteers rushed Cheptoyek to Ngenge Health Centre III, but she died shortly after arrival due to the severity of her injuries.
Mr Chesang confirmed that the suspect has since been arrested and is in police custody as investigations continue.
Mr Chesang advised couples to stop taking laws into their hands in case of disputes.

Mityana Police Station registered the highest number of cases of Domestic Violence in 2024 (409 cases), followed by Kwania with 386 cases, Busia with 307 cases, Kween with 289 cases and Luwero with 287 cases. Ends.
