Police in Luweero District are investigating circumstances under which six animals got severely injured by machete-wielding men at Tebalyala Village, Luweero Sub County in Luweero District.

Tebalyala Village Chairperson, Mr Kulanima Nsobya said that the suspects are known members of his village from one of the families that have been engaged in a land dispute with tenants on land that changed ownership after a lawful sale.

“We have witnessed acts of hooliganism and criminality by a former resident of my village who later relocated to Kampala, but his children continue destabilising peace in our area. These people have been in jail, but whenever they come out, they launch attacks on the people claiming that the land belonged to their parents although it was sold to different individuals,” Mr Nsobya said.

Mr Abraham Tukundane, the Luweero District Police Commander told Daily Monitor on Saturday that they have so far arrest four people alleged to have committed this heinous act.

“We have in custody four suspects that attacked a farm and injured animals in what is alleged to have resulted from a land dispute. The suspects already have other criminal files that had been opened against them relating to assault, trespass, and damage to property belonging to Mr Wilson Bakunda. We do not condone any acts of criminality and hooliganism,” he said.

Mr Tukundane said once the investigations are complete, the suspects will be taken to court to answer cases of assault and causing injuries to animals.
