- The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Suzan Nabwire.
A man in Bugiri District, eastern Uganda, has been arrested for hacking his wife to death after she allegedly locked him in their bedroom to engage in an affair with a neighbor.
The tragic incident occurred in Katala Village, Nambale Parish, Buwunga Sub-county, according to local councillor Yazid Isabirye.
"It is with deep sorrow that I report the death of a woman at the hands of her husband in what appears to be a dispute over infidelity," Isabirye said.
"It’s a heartbreaking tragedy for our community," he added.
The victim, identified as 25-year-old Suzan Nabwire, was married to Isima Kulya.
The couple had been experiencing marital issues, with Kulya suspecting Nabwire of having an affair with a neighbor. The two had reportedly been sleeping in separate bedrooms.
On the night of the incident, Nabwire locked Kulya in their bedroom and allegedly sneaked to the home of a neighbor, identified as Maganda.
Kulya, hearing her movements, used a window to escape the bedroom and followed her to Maganda’s house, carrying a machete.
Isabirye stated that Kulya attacked Nabwire, striking her in the head, legs, and neck, leaving her unconscious.
Despite efforts to save her, Nabwire succumbed to her injuries shortly after being rushed to Bugiri Hospital.
"We tried to save her life, but unfortunately, the doctors confirmed her death upon our arrival at the hospital," Isabirye added.
The couple leaves behind three children.
Busoga East police spokesperson Michael Kafayo confirmed the murder and said “an investigation is underway.”

Isabirye urged couples to seek external guidance when facing marital issues rather than resorting to violence.
