Man kills mother over family land, witchcraft

MANAFWA:

Police in Manafwa District in eastern Uganda are holding a 38 year-old man with two others over the death of his 78 year old mother.

Mr George Mateeka, 38, and residents of Bulobi village in Bubutu Sub- County is accused of killing his mother, Mary Nambafu following a protracted dispute over family land and practicing witch craft.

The suspect reportedly connived with Bulobi village LC1 chairperson, Christopher Muyekho, 65 and a one David Kitalya, 45 and to commit the murder.

The deceased was killed on Sunday night and her body was discovered lying in the pool of blood next to her house.

According to neighbours, Nambafu had for a long time been embroiled in a land dispute with her son who wanted a larger share of the family land left behind by her late husband.

The suspect also reportedly accused his mother of bewitching his family.

One of the neighbours, Mr Moses Masaba said: “That man has repeatedly been accusing his mother of bewitching his children. We suspect that it worsened their already soar relationship.”

The Manafwa District Police Commander, Mr Gandi Mulungi confirmed the death and arrest of the suspects.

Mr Mulungi further said the suspect entered his mother’s house with a metal and hit her, killing her instantly.

“We have arrested them to help us in our investigations,” he said.

He added that the suspects who are currently detained at Manafwa Central Police station will be charged with murder when investigations are complete.
