KY Boarding and Primary School Masaka has emerged as the top performer in the recently concluded Rua Poetry, Quiz, and Public Speaking (PQP) second edition competition, held at Light Africa SS in Nansana, Rubaga Division on June 17.
The PQP tournament is an annual event that brings together primary and secondary schools to promote English language skills, creativity, and storytelling across Uganda. This year’s theme focused on “Good Health and Wellbeing.”
Speaking to the media after the tournament, the school’s Director of Studies, Mr Javira Tamale, said KY Boarding had fielded a ten-member team, who outperformed their peers across multiple categories.
“We participated in two categories, Poetry and Public Speaking, with five participants in each. In the Poetry category, we won the top three positions: winner, first runner-up, and second runner-up,” Mr Tamale said.
In Public Speaking, the school secured three of the top five positions, earning them the title of overall winners of the PQP second edition.
“In Public Speaking, we competed against 27 students. In Poetry, there were 12. Our consistent training helped our students remain confident, fluent, and impactful,” he added.
Mr Tamale attributed their win to regular practice and a focus on building fluency and creativity.
“We emphasized impactful content and expressive delivery, especially in Poetry. For Public Speaking, we trained our students to speak with confidence and clarity,” he said.
Raphael Nsubuga, a Primary Five pupil and overall winner in the Poetry category with his piece “My Cry to the World”, said the team was well-prepared and focused on delivering a meaningful message.
“We held multiple training sessions and rehearsals with the support of our teachers. This win is a big achievement for our school,” Raphael said.
