What you need to know:

The university campus will mainly handle new courses and is expected to accommodate at least 5,000 students in five years.

Makerere University Business School has acquired part of Narambhai Primary School in Jinja Central Division to set up a campus.

Jinja Municipal Council Mayor Baswari Muhammad Kezaala on Monday officially handed over a section of the school buildings to the Mubs principal, Prof. Wasswa Juma Balunywa.

Studies are expected to commence in February next year.
The Jinja campus will mainly handle newly-introduced courses such as education, multimedia and hospitality.

Under the agreement, the institution is required to develop the primary school into a model school with secondary section and train student teachers from the university.

All school staff are expected to get scholarships for further studies and other support staff get increased pay.

Prof. Balunywa said they are expecting to have at least 5,000 students at the campus once the construction works that start in June next year are finished.

“This is going to be our biggest branch with a plan of having 5,000 students in the next five years,” Prof. Balunywa said.

Narambhai Parents Teachers Association chairperson Muhammad Mulondo and other stakeholders appealed to Prof. Balunywa to keep his promises.
