Kampala.
President Museveni is today expected to unveil the newly-constructed multi-billion Liberty Worship Centre in Lugala, a Kampala suburb. The church is run by the flamboyant Pastor Imelda Namutebi.
The new church whose sitting capacity is estimated at 15,000 people is a big complex from outside. It is also stylishly tiled and lit, reflecting the taste of its ministers and worshippers.

The church complex also boosts of a presidential lounge for high profile worshipers like the President, ministers, diplomats and MPs. Space has also been designated for television and radio stations although the needed equipment to run them has not yet been installed.
“It took us a period of eight years to finish and complete this church. We started construction in 2006 after I parted ways with Kansanga Miracle Centre in 2003,” says Pastor Namutebi.

The building is estimated to have cost about Shs7 billion and most of the contributions came from members of the church, family members and friends, says Pastor Namutebi.

“I contributed Shs100,000 during one of the previous church services and my husband gave Shs300,000 for the building project,” says Jackie Namatovu, a worshiper at the church, adding, “I am happy that the money was put into a good cause because it was all directed into building a better place for worship for all of us.”

Mr Peter Jombwe, another regular worshipper at the church who could not stop staring at the church’s tiles during the whole time of the interview, says he will now not miss Sunday services.

His contribution for the building project was Shs50,000.
The church members formerly prayed in a white wooden structure. More than 4,000 people worshipped in the old structure.
Despite the completion of the church, Pastor Namutebi says most people in the beginning doubted her ability to build and complete the church which sits on 17 acres of land.
“Most people thought I could not do it because I am a woman, but I finally did it,” says the pastor.
