A transferred police officer attached to the Fire Prevention and Rescue Department in Katonga Region is crying foul after being thrown out of his rented house.
Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Richard Turyasingura, the outgoing Katonga Regional fire officer who was recently transferred to Kisoro District as the district fire officer, says he was shocked to find his property outside the house at Buwama Police Barracks in Mpigi District on Wednesday.
Since last November when Turyasingura was transferred, he says he has been waiting for his superiors to provide him with fuel to transport his property to Kisoro in vain.
“When I got the transfer letter, I raised the matter with the Prevention and Rescue Department at the headquarters and asked them to give me fuel to transport my property, but since we were entering a festive season, I was advised to wait and allow the finance department process my fuel requisition. This has not been fulfilled despite repeated reminders, so, my successor could have been kind enough not to throw out my property because it is not my fault to remain in Mpigi after being transferred to Kisoro,” he said in an interview on Thursday.

‘’What hurts me is that, this [throwing out personal effects ] has happened when I am still taking care of my sick mother who receives treatment from Kiruddu Hospital every month,’’ he said.
Mr Turyasingura requires close to Shs800,000 to transport his property to Kisoro.
“I couldn’t have struggled like this if a vehicle had been provided to me,” he said.
When contacted, Mr Karim Majid, the Katonga Regional police spokesperson, told this publication that the regional police commander has taken note of Turyasingura’s predicament and will soon provide a solution.
“The RPC for Katonga region has taken up the matter and is in touch with the Directorate of Fire Prevention and Rescue at the headquarters to get him the fuel so that he can transport his personal effects y to his new duty station,” he said.
