Kampala Metropolitan Police have intensified a manhunt for four suspects involved in the theft of a truck carrying coffee beans worth Shs470m. The truck, which was transporting 21,600 kg of coffee beans from Kasese to Nakawa, was diverted from its original route in Kawempe last year.

"We urge the public to provide information leading to the arrest of Asiimwe Allan, Kato Kiggundu, Joab Mucunguzi, and Saidi Kasule, alias Bogere, who are still at large," said Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Mr Patrick Onyango. "Efforts are underway to apprehend and charge the remaining suspects."

Investigations revealed that the truck, registration number UBE 355V, was diverted in the Kawempe-Bwaise area. The coffee was then offloaded into other trucks with registration numbers UAY 827Q and UBG 973L, before being sold to a company in Luzira.

"We are working tirelessly to ensure that all suspects involved in this theft are brought to justice," Mr Onyango said. "We appeal to the public to provide us with any information that can lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects."

Last week, a senior police officer and several others were remanded to Kauga Prison until January 13, 2025, in connection with the theft. The suspects include Senior Officer Ali Katende, attached to Katwe Police Station, as well as two Kenyan nationals, David Kihara Muthoni and Samuel Njeru, and another individual, Juma Musisi.

The police are encouraging the public to come forward with any information that can lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects. "We assure the public that any information provided will be treated with confidentiality and will help us to bring the perpetrators to justice," Mr Onyango said.
