Mukono grade one magistrate Mariam Nalugya Semwanga on Thursday remanded a 46-year-old Corporal David Ssali to Luzira prison for allegedly shooting to death Ronald Ssebulime last month.

Prosecution led by Racheal Namutebi told court that on March 24, 2019, Ssali a resident of Namungona, Lubaga division who is also a police officer attached to Naggalama Police Station, unlawfully caused the death of Ronald Ssebulime.

Prosecution also told court that Ssali committed the offence at Nagojje trading centre in Mukono District.

Magistrate Nalugya did not allow Ssali to take plea, saying the offence is capital in nature and can only be heard in High Court. She adjourned the case to April 30 for further mention.

Mr Muwada Nkunyingi who represented Ssebulime’s family said they are at least satisfied that one of the alleged killers has been remanded and charged with a capital offence.

"We also want other police officers who were involved to be brought to court and charged," he said.

Mr Nkunyingi said the officers on a police patrol vehicle were many and they should all be brought to book.
