  • For the Karamoja region which comprise districts of Moroto, Nakapiripirit, Nabilatuk, Napak, Amudat, Kotido, Abim, Kabong, and Karenga the recruitment exercise will be held on Wednesday and Friday.

The Uganda Prisons Service has warned Ugandans participating in the ongoing recruitment exercise against paying money to anyone in exchange for being shortlisted.

Speaking to the candidates at Soroti sports ground on Monday, Mr Ben Simon Wansadha, the commissioner of Prisons in charge of safety and security, stressed  that some local officers can easily be compromised, saying the selection process will be strictly handled by the headquarters in Kampala.

“Don’t waste your money giving to people in exchange for a position, the final lists will be strictly from the headquarters, depending on your performance," Mr Wansadha mentioned.

According to him, over 800 applicants were shortlisted for the Teso sub-region, which comprises districts of Soroti, Soroti city, Kaberemaido, Serere, Kapelebyong, Kalaki, Bukedea, Katakwi, Kumi and Ngora which will run for two days.

Mr Wansadha said that the number that will be selected will be determined by the committee at the Prisons headquarters.
“But this is a nationalistic service and we are going to pick from each district depending on their performance," he said.

He emphasized the need for discipline and responsible conduct during the recruitment drive, saying they will ensure that at least each district is represented on the final list.
