Rev. Can. Magezi elected bishop of new North West Ankole Diocese

Bishop - elect, Rev Can. Amos Magezi

  • Rev Can Magezi has been the Provincial Secretary of the Church of Uganda since January 2014. Previously he was Dean of St James Cathedral Ruharo and the Bishop’s Commissar in Ankole Diocese.

The Church of Uganda has elected Rev Can. Amos Magezi the bishop of the new North West Ankole Diocese in Ibanda district.


Rev Can Magezi was elected by the House of Bishops sitting at Lweza in Wakiso district, yesterday.
The North West Ankole Diocese Coordinator, Ven. Rev. Jackson Katungi said people across the country have been sending congratulatory messages to Rev Can Magezi and Christians of the diocese.


“We welcome the decision by the House of Bishops to appoint a neutral person from another district of Mbarara who will not bring divisionism among the Lord’s flock,” Rev. Katungi said.


Rev Can Magezi has been the Provincial Secretary of the Church of Uganda since January 2014. Previously he was Dean of St James Cathedral Ruharo and the Bishop’s Commissar in Ankole Diocese.
He is the founding director and former Principal of Uganda Bible Institute. He is married and with six children.
